How to Tell If your Chair Cushion is Worn Out
Chair cushions are nice to have around. They make seating much more comfortable. But this is an item we sometimes ignore or forget about. If you’ve owned a chair cushion for several years, it’s probably worn out and needs replacing.
It’s pretty easy to tell if a chair cushion is worn out and too old to function properly. First of all, how does it feel to sit down on the cushion? Is it firm enough or starting to get soft? The second thing is the smell. Older cushions pick up sweat and body odors. As they start to break down, they can get a really foul odor.
It’s so important to be able to spot the signs of old cushions that have broken down. If you have a foam mattress, it can also get old and need replacing. Foam does absorb odors, skin cells, spilled liquids and even moisture from the air.
If a chair cushion is being used outside, on a boat or in an RV, it will get old and break down faster. That’s because these cushions are exposed to the elements. Wind, rain and air pollution can get into just about any area including furniture, an auto, a camper or a boat. The elements can affect the operation of a boat motor for instance, so just imagine what they might do to foam rubber.
The good news is that foam rubber chair cushions are easy and inexpensive to replace.
