Tips for Showing a Property to Prospective Buyers

There are a few tricks of the trade when it comes to showing a property that you might not think of. A fresh coat of paint and renewed curb appeal are surefire selling tips, but this advice goes one step further.

Handle Pets Responsibly

When prospective buyers come to see the home, you should make sure that your pets are locked up in a safe space. Garages are good, but backyards can be a problem as the buyers would be denied entry to a crucial space in the house. You can also schedule an open house and board dogs and cats for a day off at a pet hotel. Pet boarding is a very convenient service for situations where multiple strangers will visit the house in a day.

Stage the Home

Make the home look “lived-in” without making it look cluttered. Staging a home means more than just re-arranging furniture, it can also refer to the little things. Get your carpets steam cleaned, box up the loose clutter and put some effort into arranging rooms the way potential buyers might use them.

Final Thoughts

Staging can increase the sale price of a home by up to 17% if it’s done properly, but it does require an excellent eye for interior design. People who don’t want to hire an agency to stage the home should do some reading beforehand on different styles they would like to show off.

Also, hire a gardener ahead of time to spruce up the front yard. If you have a lawn, run the sprinklers a bit extra so the lawn is plush and green.
